Vitamin Sea Moss is harvested by small-scale Aquaculture Farmers in St Lucia. Wildcrafted Sea Moss (or sustainable ocean-farmed sea moss) is harvested in a very eco-friendly way, meaning harvesters take only parts of the sea moss plant, so the plant can regrow as to sustained wildlife.

The waters are a marine protected area that restricts merchant activity in an effort to minimise pollution and contaminated waters. The Sea Moss is then dried in the sun on the ocean beaches, sometimes up to 7 days. No chemicals or additional heat is used to speed the drying process and it is also never bleached. The Farmers work very closely with the Government to adhere to positive sustainability practices, with a phytosanitary Certification.

 

This documentation is vital and is sent to us with the Sea Moss so we can guarantee its authenticity and that it’s had all the required testing etc. I should add that they also employ local Islanders, and this has become their way of life and way to support their families. They are passionate about supporting local and that means on all continents and communities. So, this is not a huge company coming in, harvesting the entire crop of Sea Moss, and leaving an island robbed of nourishment for the ocean animals and then off selling it in large quantities to smaller companies.

 

Their Sea Moss is grown on the shores, not in pools, ensuring all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are the most organic and available for our bodies to absorb and benefit from. Because of this and being a totally natural product - every batch of Sea Moss we get sent is different and seasonal - so it will vary in colour and taste and also consistency because some is more hydrated that others based on all of this and how much sun it has had etc.

 

We then make it in Perth into a versatile Gel by thoroughly washing it ridding any sand and debris and its then soaked for 24-36 hours in Alkaline water and fresh organic limes which act as a natural preservative and help eliminate some of the sea smell/taste. Sea Moss Gel made fresh lasts for up to 4 weeks in the fridge or can be frozen for 3 months.
